We are looking for a trustee with HR experience to join our board 

If you have experience in HR, we’d love it if you would consider joining our trustee board. As a small charity, your contributions will have a big impact on how we work and how we shape our services into the future.

Alongside other trustees, you will be responsible for overseeing the management and administration of the charity. This includes helping to set an overarching strategic plan for HSL; providing strategic leadership and governance; developing effective links within the local community, communicating openly and frequently as appropriate and ensuring that HSL meets its responsibilities to the community; developing strategic, operational and financial policies; setting and monitoring the charity’s budget; monitoring expenditure in accordance with appropriate authorisations; and supporting the Scheme Director in overseeing and reviewing funding applications.

As the HR trustee, your responsibilities will also include: 

  • Growing, maintaining and developing staff throughout the organisation; 
  • Contributing to HR policy setting, strategic direction, goal and target setting, and evaluating performance against targets, budgets, plans and charitable objectives; 
  • Ensuring that HR activities and interventions are linked to HSL’s charitable objectives and complement the charity’s culture; 
  • Advising on and helping to improve management of HR; 
  • Ensuring the Board of Trustees properly remunerates staff and reviewing and rewarding performance and development opportunities; 
  • Working with HSL’s Scheme Director to review current HR management arrangements, and providing guidance on HR strategy and short and long-term direction; 
  • Receiving progress reports on HR and any reoccurring staffing issues.
