At the end of 2023 we launched a brand-new project called Backing Babies to expand the kind of support we can offer families in Lambeth.
Funded by Lambeth Early Action Partnership (LEAP), the purpose of the project is to see whether the following changes to our support can improve outcomes for families with babies.
The changes we’re making:
- Introducing support in the final trimester of pregnancy – supporting families to get ready for their babies
- Offering support at more regular intervals (if families want this), up to 2 visits a week
- Proving support over a longer time period – support can last up to 9 months
We’ll be testing this new, enhanced service approach with five families until next summer and assess the results in September 2024. If the project is successful, we’ll seek funding so we can offer it to more families in future.
We need volunteers
This is an exciting opportunity to trial some changes to our well-established support model, but we need volunteers to help us test this new approach.
Volunteers involved in the project will feed directly into the evaluation and help us to ensure that we learn from their experiences as we shape the service for the future.
Tell us you’re interested:
If you’d like to volunteer on Backing Babies project please email Rebecca at info@homestartlambeth.co.uk and let her know:
- That you are interested in the project
- Whether you are available to do 2 visits a week
If you’re not able to offer 2 visits a week, but are still interested in volunteering on the project, please do get in touch anyway. Some families may not be looking for 2 visits a week.
Volunteers on this project will receive additional training on perinatal mental health. This training is something we have been wanting to run for a while! It will help us to support families both in this project and outside of it.
We’ll be posting further news on Backing Babies in the weeks and months to come, but to make sure you don’t miss an update, sign up to our newsletter.
